We were approached by St Columba's Catholic Boys’ School as they were looking for an innovative way to run their traditional October Open Days in light of COVID restrictions preventing prospective pupils from being able to attend in person. 

The Matterport model is a great platform for the school to showcase their buildings and facilities, it allows pupils and parents to explore and discover the school remotely without having to physically visit. We used Mattertags throughout the tour to label each room, and include departmental videos that the school produced. This additional information provided invaluable insight into the facilities that the school offers and a window into what the experience is like for pupils who attend. 

The School is spread across 3 floors in 3 separate buildings, the capture took place across 3 afternoons after the pupils had gone home for the day, with our staff adhering to the school's COVID policy throughout. 

Once each section of the capture was complete, we spent some time with the school over video conferencing to add in the room labels as required.

The school used the Matterport models on the school's dedicated open day microsite, sitting right alongside other content.  Using the Matterport analytics platform, we were able to provide the school with regular updates on the views, helping them really measure the effectiveness of the new virtual open days.  The good news is that the unique views out-performed last year's in-person events! 

The school had a set of plans for the building that was several years out of date, with various building projects having been completed in the meantime.  The Matterport 3D Models allow you to export the raw 3D data captured during the scans to use in industry standard CAD programs. Our in-house CAD team was able to utilise the data to update the school’s plans to properly reflect the current ‘as built’ layout of the school buildings.
